John!
With last week’s announcement that Representative Pete Schwartzkopf would be stepping down from the Speakership House Democrats were tasked with electing new leadership. In doing so, they made herstory by electing an all-female team to lead their caucus! At the helm is former House Majority Leader, Rep. Valerie Longhurst, who serves as the first female Speaker of the House. Her exceptional track record in championing equality, gun safety, criminal justice reform, and behavioral health initiatives speaks volumes about her dedication to the people of Delaware. Additionally, we congratulate Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown, the first person of color elected as House Majority Leader, and Rep. Kerri Evelyn Harris, the first openly LGBTQ+ member to hold a leadership position in either chamber. Their commitment to amplifying marginalized voices and driving positive change is truly commendable. |
