Dear John,
As ADL continues to monitor the situation in Israel, we are deeply saddened by the loss of civilian life in both Israel and the West Bank. And we are outraged by yet another senseless Palestinian terrorist attack on Israeli citizens earlier this week where at least 9 innocent Israelis were wounded in Tel Aviv.
The attack occurred during an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) operation in the West Bank city of Jenin. Since 2022, the city has been the largest source of terror attacks emanating from the West Bank, with at least 15 Israelis killed by Jenin-based terrorists. According to reports, they were targeting the Iranian regime backed and funded Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorist group and other smaller factions. The operation was focused on demolishing terror infrastructure, including weapons depots, and arresting suspected terrorists. We wish the injured civilians a speedy recovery and continue to support Israel in its efforts to defend its people against Palestinian terrorism and all other
threats.
In times like these, it’s important to remember that slander against the Jewish state can have dangerous consequences and endangers Jewish people everywhere. When elected officials like Representative Rashida Tlaib misrepresent Israel’s actions in times of conflict, it fans the flames of rising anti-Jewish and anti-Zionist hate. During the coming days, ADL will be monitoring several scheduled anti-Israel protests across some European and North American cities. In the past, some of these have contained violent anti-Zionist chants and acts of antisemitism.
We hope to see calm quickly restored for Israelis & Palestinians following this past week’s events and call for renewed efforts to advance peace between the parties. For the latest ADL statements and updates please remember to follow us on
