From early Monday morning through yesterday evening, Israel conducted a complex yet surgical military operation to degrade and dismantle the significant terrorist infrastructure that had been built up in Jenin.
During the operation, the IDF seized thousands of weapons including guns and explosives, destroyed terrorist command centers, and dismantled weapons manufacturing sites — all intentionally embedded within dense civilian communities.
The situation in Jenin — and Israel being forced to take counterterrorism actions — is a direct result of failed Palestinian governance. The failure of the Palestinian Authority to maintain stability and security in the areas it controls has created a vacuum that Iran and its terrorist proxies have gladly filled, turning major West Bank cities into lawless hotbeds of terrorism.
The past few days have been a stark reminder of the dangerous situation across the West Bank. Iran is committed to turn the West Bank into another military front against Israel like it has in Gaza and Lebanon, all but guaranteeing Israel will be forced to conduct more large-scale operations like the one this week in Jenin.
As this operation concluded, terrorists in Gaza fired rockets into Israel and a terrorist from the West Bank carried out a car-ramming and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv — demonstrating yet again the multi-front challenge Israel is forced to confront.
From Gaza and the West Bank to Lebanon and Syria, Israel is now forced to increase its activity to confront the Iranian-backed groups working to surround the Jewish state with increasingly advanced weapons.
Our work together ensures Israel has the vital resources and support it needs to defend itself and take the actions needed to prevent attacks on its citizens.
Together we must ensure America fully funds security assistance to Israel, stands by the Jewish state with the support and equipment it needs to keep its people safe, strongly pushes back on the Iranian regime’s aggression, and deepens the partnerships between the U.S., Israel, and our allies in the region.
Over the coming weeks we will continue our Summer Policy Blitz and will be emailing you Action Alerts to contact Congress on these key priorities. We have already seen tremendous bipartisan support for key legislative initiatives.
Israel’s enemies aren’t letting up and neither can we. This work is an enduring necessity for Israel’s long-term strength and security, and I am deeply appreciative for your commitment to AIPAC and our mission.
Sincerely,
Brian Shankman
Chief Strategy Director for National Affairs
