One of the key issues we’ll be focusing on at Ceres 2020 is the climate crisis. We now have less than 10 years to act if we want to avoid the worst impacts of climate change -- and it’s going to take innovative solutions and bold actions from investors, companies, regulators and policymakers if we’re going to ensure a just and sustainable future.
Here are just a few of the sessions at Ceres 2020 that will focus on climate solutions:
Putting a Robust Price on Carbon Pollution: The Economic Case
To limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, global emissions need to be cut in half by 2030, and drop to net zero by 2050. One of the most powerful tools to achieve this goal is carbon pricing. In this plenary session participants will:
  • Examine the economic case for putting a robust price on carbon pollution.
  • Evaluate the current state of carbon pricing systems worldwide.
  • Identify actions investors and businesses can take to encourage governments to enact and strengthen carbon pricing systems.
Limiting Temperature Rise to 1.5 Degrees: Roles for Investors, Companies, and Policymakers
With new awareness of the systemic risks if global temperatures rise above 1.5℃, investors, companies and policymakers have begun making commitments to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In this session, participants will:
  • Explore how major asset owners decided to commit to net-zero portfolios.
  • Compare corporate strategies to set and meet ambitious carbon reduction goals.
  • Evaluate the critical role of policymakers in enabling deep carbon emissions reductions.
Communicating the Climate Crisis
The majority of Americans believe corporations aren’t doing enough to tackle the global climate crisis. In fact, employees and consumers are demanding more action. As a result, an increasing number of CEOs are becoming more vocal about their companies’ actions on climate change to the broader public and to policymakers—and right behind them are their chief communications officers encouraging them to speak louder and act faster. In this session, participants will:
  • Explore what is driving creative storytelling around sustainability.
  • Discuss how speaking and acting on the climate crisis will strengthen companies reputation, improve overall performance and benefit the bottom line.
  • Dive into why we need urgent bold action to follow words in order to accelerate the transition to the net-zero emissions economy.
These are just a few of the many sessions at Ceres 2020 in New York. Register now and reserve your spot on the agenda before they fill up. The time is now!
