From Friday evening to the early hours of Wednesday, the Gun Violence Archive has recorded an appalling 22 mass shootings across the country. These incidents resulted in 20 people losing their lives and 126 others being injured. This is ongoing. These numbers have and will change. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AREN’T SAVING LIVES. IT’S TIME FOR POLICY AND CHANGE.
The mass shootings were not confined to a single location or state. They stretched from our nation's capital to Fort Worth, Texas, and from Florin, California to the Bronx, New York. The states of Texas and Maryland suffered two incidents each, highlighting that no part of our nation is immune to this pressing issue.
Perhaps most distressing is that these mass shootings coincided with the Fourth of July - a day of celebration for the values that our country holds dear. Yet, we find ourselves questioning why such a significant day has become associated with risk and tragedy.
In Fort Worth, Texas, three lives were lost and eight people were injured at a community gathering. In Philadelphia, a horrific incident involving a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun resulted in five people dead and two injured, including a 2-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy. These are just two instances among several others across the nation, painting a bleak picture of the urgency and gravity of the issue at hand.
The fight against gun violence is a shared responsibility, and we all play a crucial role. Now more than ever, we are called to act. As a community, we can no longer afford to let these tragedies occur. We must demand more of our elected officials and work tirelessly to foster a culture of gun safety.
What can we do? WE ARE TAKING ACTION. It’s time to put the flame under the feet of our elected officials who are actively refusing to address this issue. Add your name to our petition so we can show up as a collective. This is a national issue and it’s time for all of us to come together to put an end to the senseless violence.
Together, we can push for a future free of these avoidable tragedies. Our deepest sympathies go out to all those who have been affected by these horrifying incidents. We stand with you in your time of need and promise to do all we can to continue the fight until our communities are safe from senseless gun violence.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we can make a difference.
In unity,
The Alliance Team
