Awesome, folks! Sen. Scott Wiener's disastrous experiment, SB 50, was killed in Sacramento today. (Below, we thank senators who voted against, or abstained.) Up top, we thank you! The tenant, social justice, homeowner, environmental, neighborhood, and local government groups who fought SB 50. What a coalition!
We expect Sen. Wiener to use a surprise bill to revive his thrice-failed idea of mass upzoning. We’ve tried to educate Sen. Wiener that California cities are racing forward on housing approvals, and VERY FEW populous areas still lag on their state-required housing goals.
Sen. Wiener is trapped in a 4-year-old idea time has passed by. We can’t let him waste 2020. We must support bills that fund & construct low-income housing, like SB 795 by Sen. Beall.
We MUST grow our small fund to fight the millions behind Wiener as he revives his dead idea. Please donate to LivableCalifornia.org, and join us on Feb. 1, Saturday at 10 am, for:

Much appreciated because most California media have been dead wrong about key fundamentals in this debate.
We warmly thank these state senators: “No” voting senators Ben Allen, Pat Bates. Andreas Borgeas, Bill Dodd, Maria Elena Durazo, Steve Glazer, Bob Hertzberg, Jerry Hill, Hannah-Beth Jackson, Brian Jones, Holly Mitchell, Anthony Portantino, Susan Rubio, Henry Stern and Scott Wilk. And senators who abstained, Bob Archuleta, Steven Bradford, Ling Ling Chang, Mike Morrell and Tom Umberg.
Livable California is a non-profit statewide group of community leaders, activists and local elected officials. We believe in local answers to the housing affordability crisis. Our robust fight requires trips to Sacramento & a lobbyist going toe-to-toe with power. Please donate generously to LivableCalifornia.org here.
