I am so deeply grateful to all those who have stepped forward to offer your support in this campaign thus far. With your support, we finished our first fundraising period in the race strong: over 1,000 contributions in less than three months.
Amid the flurry of texts and emails you get from our campaign (and probably from others), it’s easy to forget what this is all about. I’m not running to raise money; I’m running to do my part in lifting up America and Americans.
On July 5, 1861, 162 years ago today, Congress sat to listen to a message from President Abraham Lincoln summing what was at stake in the Civil War that had recently begun.
President Lincoln told us, “It is a struggle for maintaining in the world that form and substance of government whose leading object is to elevate the condition of men; to lift artificial weights from all shoulders; to clear the paths of laudable pursuit for all; to afford all an unfettered start and a fair chance in the race of life."
We’re not at war, but we are fighting for the same ideals. “An unfettered start and a fair chance in the race of life” for all Americans is still what we’re striving for.
That’s what all those emails and texts we send are all about. I’m not taking a dime from corporate PACs, so our campaign relies on the generosity of thousands of individuals like you who share these ideals and want to see positive change in our community and country. Your support means we can wage this campaign for a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
