Team, the Supreme Court is irreparably broken.
The devastating rulings last week will leave a scar on our democracy and harm the lives of countless LGBTQ+ people, people of color, and millions of working-class people burdened by the weight of student debt.
Like you, I am enraged by the cruelty, the shamelessness, and the blatant hypocrisy of these decisions. With every ruling, the Supreme Court makes this country look more and more like an oligarchy run by billionaires than a democracy run by the people. It’s starting to look more and more like the fundamentalism in Iran from which my family escaped.
But I’m never giving up fighting for the rights of all us, court or no court. The six extremist justices, their billionaire benefactors, and their GOP enablers want nothing more than for us to concede in despair and hopelessness. But we won’t — we will never let them have the final word on our rights, our lives, or our freedoms.
We’ll fight back by building political power for all marginalized voices the Supreme Court is trying to silence. We’ll expand representation in the House with LGBTQ+ leaders and congress members of color, take back our House majority, and expand our Senate majority in 2024. At the same time the six extremists were weighing their decision to eviscerate our fundamental rights, Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samual Alito were accepting lavish gifts, trips on yachts, and direct financial contributions from billionaires with business on the court — without any system of accountability or code of ethics.
It doesn’t get much more corrupt than that, folks. Unelected justices with lifetime appointments should never have this amount of unchecked power or ability to make decisions that deeply impact the lives of all of us.
This is a true crisis of our democracy, which is why we need to build a MASSIVE, diverse movement by and for the people to fight back.
We can reign in the Supreme Court, restore our rights in federal law, restore balance to the court, and salvage our democracy. But we need to take back the House in 2024 to get it done.
