DC insiders all have their preconceived ideas about the Blue Dogs. That's fine with us.

We'd rather be able to talk to our constituents than fit neatly into some category dreamed up by a high-paid political consultant.

Let’s break down what Blue Dogs are really doing for you in Congress:

We're the people who focus on passing good policies that don’t break the bank.
There are federal government programs that help a lot of people, but we can maximize the effect they have by making sure they don't cost us more than we can pay in the long run. If a law is worth enacting, it's worth paying for.

We're the people who prioritize our neighbor’s voices over party extremists.
We're going to use our own heads and our constituents' input to decide what to support and how to vote in Congress. We look out for our neighbors, we’re normal people that came here to work for them.

We're the people who get things done in Congress.
We're the ones who find compromises between Democrats and Republicans, and we always work hard to keep things running during partisan standoffs. The Blue Dogs are willing to work with anyone who has a good idea, in order to see that idea turned into a law.

We're the people who combat extremism.
We take no pleasure in pointing out that some extremists on the right have hijacked the message of our Republican friends and are trying to pull their party to the fringe. That doesn't fly with us. Anyone who uses their office to serve their own interests rather than the interests of their constituents should know that we're planning to hold them accountable in the next election.

Most importantly, we’re the people who can take back the House.
You’ve heard it time and again, “Let’s flip this district,” and then when you put your money there, it either doesn’t happen, or we lose the seat again the next election cycle. That’s not sustainable. We aren’t just about flipping seats – we’re about making smart choices and holding the seats we have, AND we’ve got the know-how to do it.

Our members are some of the only Democrats in red districts, and that’s why we do things a little differently. If we want Democrats to take back the gavel, it’s going to happen because of the Blue Dogs.
