Hi Friend,
My name is Roxana Rincones, and I will be serving as FAMM’s interim president while we search for Kevin Ring’s replacement.
When I first started at FAMM, I’d been working for much of my career in nonprofit management, most recently with a group working for innocent people on death row. I knew that our justice system badly needed reform, and I saw firsthand how people behind bars and their families were suffering. So the FAMM mission was a natural fit for me, and it was easy and rewarding to throw myself into the work. Sixteen years later, all of that is still true.
I’ve worn many, many hats at FAMM – founder Julie Stewart hired me to handle the financial and administrative parts of the organization, knowing that I would eventually work my way into the programs. I’ve probably spent thousands of hours on the phone with family members, helping them navigate an incredibly stressful time. I’ve managed every aspect of FAMM’s finances. I’ve helped manage the growth the organization, always following my guiding principle – providing whatever is necessary for the success of the organization and of its staff.
And now, I’m excited to wear one more hat – that of Interim FAMM President. Kevin Ring’s shoes, of course, are going to be very hard to fill, but I want you to know that I will be supporting the FAMM mission and Kevin and Julie’s excellent work to the very best of my ability. A tough task? Yes. But I’m excited and ready for the challenge. The FAMM staff is incredible – and our energy and dedication to reform will not waver.
As I write this, we’ve just wrapped up a Federal Lobby Day – we brought 70 family members and returning citizens to D.C. to lobby for the EQUAL Act and for independent prison oversight. That work, of course, will continue full-steam ahead, plus our work in the states – all under the umbrella of our Second Chances Agenda.
I’ll end by saying this: Not a day goes by that I don’t have affected family members and people in prison in my thoughts. I am committed to this work, and I am grateful to be entrusted to steer the ship for the time being.
I welcome your feedback and connection. We are FAMMily, after all.
Sincerely,
