Dear John,

The health sector is going through a workforce crisis.

That means more sick and injured Kiwis are waiting too long for the treatment they desperately need, whether it’s in the ED, to see their GP, or on a growing wait list for necessary surgery.

That’s why I’ve just announced a new policy to bolster our health workforce, and get it back on track. Here’s a quick summary:

- A new medical school in Waikato to boost the number of doctors being trained.

- Increased training places at existing medical schools.

National's new policy will result in 220 more doctors graduating each year by 2030, compared to just 50 more under Labour’s plan.

A Waikato medical school should have been started five years ago as the previous National Government planned.

But Labour cancelled it in 2018 and their short-sightedness has led to you waiting longer to be seen.

National’s latest <[link removed]> policy will help more Kiwis to see a doctor faster by training more doctors here at home.

This policy is in addition to the policies we’ve previously announced to deliver more nurses and midwives. <[link removed]>

A National government I lead will fix the economy so we can afford better healthcare for all New Zealanders.

Best,

Christopher
