Dear Friend,
I hope by now you’ve had a chance to listen to AFSCME’s I AM STORY podcast.
This five-episode series tells the story of the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers’ strike and its lasting impact on the history of the labor movement, civil rights, and economic justice in America. You can find it by searching I AM STORY wherever you get your podcasts.
In addition to archival footage from 55 years ago, the podcast features interviews with sanitation workers who participated in the strike, as well as civil rights leaders, labor leaders and many others. But there was one conversation in particular that I want to share with you.
Click here now to hear more of my discussion with Martin Luther King III, whose father was murdered during one of several trips he took to Memphis to show solidarity with the striking workers.
Martin and I discussed the strike, his father, and how the events of 55 years ago still resonate today.
We couldn’t include our entire conversation in the podcast, so I wanted to share some additional highlights. You can hear more of my discussion with Martin Luther King III by clicking here.
I hope you enjoy our talk, and make sure to listen to and share the I AM STORY podcast!
In solidarity,
Lee Saunders
