Our country’s July 4th celebration comes at a time when many are questioning the guarantee of equality set forth in our Declaration of Independence. Two historic U.S. Supreme Court decisions last week, on affirmative action and student loan debt, are leaving big questions – and much frustration – for colleges and students.

The affirmative action decision in particular isn’t a surprise, but as the pledges from university leaders of their “unwavering commitment” to access and inclusion grew, I decided to take a closer look at the stark lack of diversity ([link removed]) at many of the same selective colleges protesting the court’s 6-3 decision ([link removed]) . None of those leaders addressed why these highly competitive colleges have been so lacking in diversify when the use of race in admissions was an option.

Now that it isn’t, we will continue following this issue in the months ahead to see how colleges are addressing it, and we look forward to hearing more from our readers. So please, get in touch.
