John xxxxxx,
On this Fourth of July, I’d like to
invoke a different American theme than what we are used to. The
fireworks and glorification of war is but one aspect of the American
psyche. The time has come to elevate another one – the aspiration
expressed in songs like “America the Beautiful” and “This Land is Your
Land.”
Despite decades of warlike behavior
abroad and environmental destruction at home, America remains an
incredibly beautiful nation. Much health and vitality still remains in
our “purple mountains majesty,” our “amber waves of grain,” our broad
forests, rivers, wetlands, and coasts.
Underneath the warlike behavior of
past decades still remains a reservoir of goodwill that seeks to bring
peace to the world and to avoid the “foreign entanglements” and
“adventures abroad” our Founders warned against, except when compelled
by dire necessity.
On this Fourth of July, let us
celebrate the beauty of America and the basic goodness of the American
people. Let us resolve to hold these precious, and to live up to the
magnificent future that they promise.
This land is your land. This land
is my land. Please join me in making it the best it can possibly
be.
Chip in $3, $5, $25, or whatever you can to help grow
our campaign to put Robert F. Kennedy in the White
House!
Happy 4th of July!
Sincerely,
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
