Happy Fourth of July.

Today, we mark the 247th anniversary of our independence as a nation.

It’s our chance to look back at the progress we’ve made, and a reminder of the fights still ahead of us to ensure that the promise of true freedom is real for all: the freedom to be who you are, the freedom to teach our nation’s full history, the freedom to love who you love, the freedom to make decisions about your own body and the future of your family.

Our fight for those freedoms is born out of a love for our country. It’s born out of our patriotism, where each and every day we stand up for the ideals behind the Declaration of Independence -- and we fight back against those trying to restrict our rights for their own gain.

So today, as we celebrate the liberty our brave service members fought and died for, I hope you will join me in recommitting to the work ahead to ensure that every American can enjoy the freedoms promised to us at our nation’s founding and the rights secured by the generations before us.

Fueled by our love for our country and optimism of what it can be, I know we can -- and will -- create a better nation for all.
