John – as I gather with friends and family to celebrate the anniversary of our nation's founding, I can't help but reflect on our country's promise of equity, opportunity and freedom.
When I was wrongfully incarcerated for 20 years for a crime I didn’t commit, I dreamed of all the opportunities I could have. I never could have imagined that I’d have so many incredible opportunities – from starting a family to being Chief Policy Advisor for the Los Angeles Innocence Project, where I work to reform the justice system and exonerate others who have been wrongfully convicted.
Now, I’m running for Congress here in CA-27, because I recognize the work that we still need to do to make our country live up to its potential.
I truly believe that only in America can the son of Mexican immigrants – who was wrongfully convicted and served 20 years – grow up with a story of opportunity like mine. Now, I'm working toward a future where everyone has the chance to achieve their own American Dream.
You see, true patriotism means striving for a more perfect nation – one that lives up to its promises even for those most marginalized – and as you well know, we've got a long way to go.
I vow to fight every day for an America that lives up to its promise of freedom for everyone, and I'm so thankful that you've joined me on this historic grassroots campaign.
Together, we can strive towards these reforms and successfully defeat Mike Garcia to flip CA-27.
Thank you for your help. Enjoy your holiday, I’ll be reaching out to you again soon!
