It’s the Fourth of July, John, and I’ll be honest: I don't feel like celebrating.

Calling today “Independence Day” when millions of women have lost their own bodily autonomy, trans youth are under attack, and lawmakers are deciding what children should and should not be taught is a joke — and I’m not laughing.

It seems like we are losing freedoms, big and small, every day. 

So, in honor of the true history of this holiday, I’m using today to fight back against an oppressive government. Instead of overlooking our country’s problems with beers and barbecues and yelling about “FREEDOM!” — I’m recommitting myself to making that true for everyone. 

That’s why we at HER Time are working nonstop to restore abortion rights, protect our LGBTQ+ siblings, and elect more lawmakers who will protect us, instead of betraying our freedoms.
