JUNE 2023

Dear John,

World Population Day is next week, 11 July, and to commemorate it we'll be
hosting a special online event. We have a fascinating panel of speakers who
bring a wealth of on-the-ground experience and first-hand stories, so
please do join us.

We also consider the plague of plastic for World Environment Day, a
radio documentary looking at the population issue, we mark one year since
the overturning of Roe v. Wade and look at developments in male
contraception.

Thank you for your continuing support!

Protests in Poland

There were protests across Poland in June after an expectant mother died
having been denied an abortion that could have saved her life. This is
where pronatalist policies can lead, and further proof that restricting
women’s reproductive rights can be a matter of life and death.

The plague of plastic

Did you know that nearly 80% of plastics end up in landfill or the ocean?
That’s why this year, World Environment Day turned its focus to plastics

Quote of the month

_“The fact that girls’ education is overlooked by leaders puts more
girls and women at risk of suffering severe impacts from the climate
crisis. Research has already shown that educating girls for climate justice
equips them with the right information, tools and resources they need to
respond to climate-related disasters.”_

- Joan Kembabazi, Founder of Gufasha Girls Foundation, Uganda, and PM
Choice Ambassador
