Dear , 

“A republic, if you can keep it.”  

You probably know this quotation as Ben Franklin's statement upon being asked, at the end of the Constitutional Convention, about what form of government it created. 

When I think of this anecdote, I think of your work in the classroom.  

What Franklin meant is that the "keeping" part is really hard.  

And that's the work you do every day. 

You help our young people explore America’s Founding principles and the ideals of a free and just society.  

 You teach our students to think critically and engage with diverse viewpoints.  

And you guide our students as they develop life-long citizenship skills, such as mutual respect and the ability to engage civilly—even with people they disagree with.  

This work is vital during these divisive, polarizing times—and it is essential for the future of our nation.  

For the past 24 years, the Bill of Rights Institute has been proud to support you as you educate America’s future leaders. We look forward to continuing to serve you and your students with best-in-class resources and programs in the school year ahead.  

I hope you will spend this Independence Day surrounded by family and loved ones. And as you reflect on America’s unique story, please know how much we appreciate the important role you play in passing it forward.
