Dear John,
On this day 247 years ago, our Founding Fathers passed the Declaration of Independence -- a moment that changed the course of world history.
That decision ultimately secured our God-given freedoms, and now through your partnership with FRC, you are enabling us to fight to secure these freedoms for our children and grandchildren. Thank you!
It's easy for some to forget (especially thanks to the abysmal and biased civics and history education most people receive in public schools) just how precarious and unprecedented that moment was.
The men of the Continental Congress came from 13 independent colonies. The youngest was just 26 years old, the oldest 70. Some were lawyers, others ministers, plantation owners, or merchants. For weeks they constantly butted heads over everything, from the monumental decision to separate from Great Britain to even the smallest phrase in the document penned by Thomas Jefferson.
In the end, those 56 men voted and affixed their signatures just below the Declaration's closing line: "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
They understood that if the rag-tag American militias lost the war against the superior might of the British empire, they faced charges of treason.
But they dared to put everything on the line and stand for the truth "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
America today faces a very different sort of crisis:
- Radical agendas are dividing our nation...
- Churches and pregnancy resource centers face vandalism and even firebombing...
- Top military brass seem more concerned with pride flags and pronouns than preparing our service members to defend America...
- Parents who speak out at school board meetings on pornographic materials in the classroom are labeled "hate groups" by the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center...
- Medical professionals deny the science regarding life in the womb and the biological reality of male and female...
And the list goes on.
Fundamental questions regarding truth, religious freedom, free speech, and the rule of law are being hotly debated right now.
The days ahead will not be easy. But as followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to pray and to stand for the transcendent truth of God that makes for a free and prosperous people.
I am grateful for the thousands of Americans like you, John, that are not giving up or giving in.

I firmly believe we can see our broken nation rebuilt, revived, and returned to God as millions of American Christians stand together for biblical truth.
