Dear Neighbor: I wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy Independence Day! Each year on July 4th we take time to celebrate the Continental Congress' passage of the Declaration of Independence. Though our Founders authored this document in 1776, the core ideals articulated within — the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — remain as sacred today as ever. 247 years later, our country remains what it was back during its inception — an aspirational idea. This beautiful idea of instituting a new government deriving its "just powers from the consent of the governed" was a novel concept then. Yet today, America remains the world's beacon of democracy, prosperity, and freedom. Yes, our country faces a critical moment in history in which the problems we face must command our government's focus and urgency. It's why I'm running for U.S. Congress, because the work of creating a better America must never be finished. But today, I join with you all in once again celebrating our country — the greatest nation on Earth. I pledge to you, as your Legislator and as your next Member of Congress, that my hope for a better future for our nation will never be extinguished. And I promise to work diligently to bring Republicans and Democrats together to fulfill the vision our Founders set forth in 1776. Happy 4th of July. And may God Bless the United States of America.
