We have not always lived up to the ideals laid out in the Declaration of Independence, but we have always been inching closer.
Happy Independence Day.
Today we celebrate the 247th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is a day to reflect on our history – the theme, for me, is progress. The progress we have made since the country’s founding and how much progress we still have to make in the future.
We have not always lived up to the ideals of liberty and equality that were laid out in the Declaration of Independence, but we have always been inching closer. In fact, it is the ongoing fight to secure liberty, equality, and justice for all people that motivated me to run for Congress in the first place.
I will be out attending events in the district today, and I hope to see some of you there. But whether you are joining in the festivities, having a quiet day at home, or working as usual, I hope you will take a few moments to join me in reflecting on the promise of America and the progress we need to continue to make to live up to it.
Thanks for reading,
Zak
