Graduation at The Tick Tock Nursery 🎓

Tick Tock Nursery Aspley

Councillors Graham Chapman and Patience Ifediora attended the graduation of 22 primary school children from the Tick Tock Nursery based on Denton Green.

A few years ago councillors helped get the nursery established for local families. Thanks to the excellent management of its owner Natasha Bryan, it has gone from strength to strength, opening a second branch in the Bells Lane Community Centre.

Early years education is essential to give children a decent start in life and a facility like this in our estate is amazing.

Little Sparks Babies and Toddlers Group

Little Sparks Aspley

We are so grateful for the support of Nottingham City Council in assisting us financially to start Little Sparks parents and babies/toddlers group at Woven St Martha’s Church in Broxtowe Estate.

We are open during term times on Thursdays 9.15am – 11 am. We’ve been able to purchase new toys to add to our pre-loved donations, safe-to-drink coffee cups, and invested in a new street sign to increase visibility.

Families love coming here, and with our large space and existing soft-play area we hope to increase our numbers to create a fun and welcoming community where parents can enjoy that extra support and for it to be a real highlight in their week.

- Peter Huxtable, Vicar at Woven St Martha’s Broxtowe

Aspley Library stays open! 🕮

Aspley Library

Proposals to close Aspley Library to help the council respond to central government grant cuts have been reversed.

Supported by many in the local community, councillors helped put the case to keep the library open. The library opening times can be found here. Current regular activities include:

  • Craft club and lego - Saturdays 9.30am to 12pm
  • After school club - Wednesdays 3.30pm to 5.30pm
  • Knit and natter - Tuesdays 4.30pm to 5.30pm
  • Stay and play - Mondays 10am to 11am (for under 5’s)
  • Work club and energy advice - Tuesdays 1pm to 3pm
  • Crafty man club - Mondays 11am to 1pm
  • Messy play - Second Wednesday of each month, 10am to 11am

Street Book Boxes 📚

Street boxes

Your local councillors have teamed up with the local community interest company, Diversify Education, to produce ‘street book boxes’ to enable people to borrow and deposit books.

The aim is to encourage more reading, especially amongst children in the area. The boxes are located here:

- Frinton Road at a house opposite St Martha's church

- Bells Lane Community Centre at Amesbury Circus

- Tick Tock All Stars Nursery on Denton Green (exact location is still to be confirmed)

Streets for People programme making good progress

Streets for people

Over 70 resurfacing schemes have been completed so far across the city.

In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

Nottingham City Council has approved ÂŁ11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around. Streets that have been improved in Aspley so far include:

  • Roads - Lindbridge Road, Eltham Drive and Frinton Road
  • Paths - Bramley Road, Camborne Drive and Amersham Rise

We are also setting money aside for tree work and bin replacements. You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.
