Team,

Today marks 247 since America declared independence and the beginning of a new wave of democracy with the core values of freedom, justice, and liberty.

Since the birth of our nation, we have made great strides in terms of democratic progress. Yet, there have been critical setbacks in terms of equality and freedom.

As we reflect on our nation’s history and impacts, it’s important to acknowledge the rights we have lost and fought back for like abortion access in Michigan. Although we have made progress in Michigan, many states throughout the country are still without these rights and protections.

We must continue to come together and fight for equality for everyone — especially right now when so many are facing challenges.

Today, we need to commit to voting, organizing, marching, and fighting until everyone feels the independence, justice, and liberty this nation was promised. 2024 is going to be an important year to fight for our rights and guarantee a bright future for our democracy.

In solidarity,

Lavora Barnes
