John,
I would like to wish you a happy Independence Day!
America is like a beautiful song. Our song has dynamics, the highs of our founding promise, of all of us being created equal with the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Our song also has tragic lows, the horror of American slavery, the legalization of abortion… dark places in history when the inherent right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is not recognized for all.
We just celebrated one year since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade. This historic win has led to life-saving progress in this past year.
We have seen an estimated 24 thousand fewer abortions. That's 24 thousand children who are alive because of life-saving pro-life laws. I promise those children will do amazing things. They will impact our nation in ways we cannot predict or imagine.
We have more than 360 pro-life bills filed, and 36 pro-life laws enacted across the states.
13 states have completely banned elective abortion. Truly amazing, life-saving progress.
But, we still have a ways to go. Abortion is also rising in some states, with abortions up by the thousands in states like Illinois and California. Abortion activists are emboldened. The abortion pill is more accessible than ever.
And some federal lawmakers falsely believe that the federal government has no role to play in stopping this killing.
Our response must be fearless and unwavering. The lives of over 2,000 children every day depend on it.
Our north star is complete equal protection as promised by the 14th Amendment.
Right now, in America, abortion is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and it’s time for both our state and federal law to reflect that.
As we move forward, let us remember that our fight for life is not just a political or legal battle - it is a battle for hearts and minds. We must engage in compassionate dialogue, persuading others of the truth. We must provide resources, education, and alternatives, empowering women and families to embrace life.
Today, on Independence Day, let’s remember all who have fought for the freedom we enjoy in this country. Let their examples inspire us to do the same for those whose lives are in danger right now.
We have the incredible opportunity to build a culture that cherishes and celebrates life, where all children are welcomed, loved, and given a chance to fulfill their potential.
Every child deserves to be born and live in this incredible country.
Let us seize this moment with grace, determination, and compassion, knowing that the future of our nation depends on our unwavering commitment to the fundamental right to life.
Indeed, today we celebrate the beautiful song that is America, but we must not let the sounds of dissonance overtake the melody. Let us be the ones who create a beautiful harmony that will last for generations to come.
For Life,
Lila Rose
