Since the end of the legislative session in early May, we have signed more than 80 bills into law that work to create safer communities, increase opportunities for educational equity and diversity, restore faith in government, increase access to health care, protect our environment and natural resources, and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Hawai‘i. HOMEOWNER ASSISTANCE FUND PROGRAM EXPANDS ([link removed])

The Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) Program has announced it is expanding eligibility to provide more assistance for Hawaiʻi homeowners. Since the program’s inception in 2021, service providers from the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement and Hawaiʻi Community Lending have been serving homeowners with the greatest needs. HAF provides essential mortgage assistance to homeowners who experienced financial hardship caused by the COVID19 pandemic. (Read more) ([link removed])


** NEW GUN SAFETY LAWS TO PROTECT HAWAIʻI’S PEOPLE – SB1230 AND HB1239 ([link removed])

On June 2, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Governor Green signed into law two key pieces of firearms related legislation – SB1230 and HB1239 – to preserve the safety of Hawai‘i residents, visitors, and keiki. “These bills strike a very appropriate balance between public safety and protecting people and children in Hawai‘i, along with respecting the Second Amendment right of individuals,” said Governor Green. ** ACTION TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF HAWAIʻI’S YOUTH – SB975 ([link removed])

Governor Green signed antivaping bill SB975, now Act 62, which will reduce access and availability of electronic smoking devices to children and teens. Act 62 establishes the offense of unlawful shipment of tobacco products to anyone who does not hold a valid retail permit or wholesale license. Also, beginning January 1, 2024, there will be a wholesale tax of 70 percent on electronic smoking devices or eliquid sold in the state. (Read more) ([link removed])


** TAKING STEPS TO PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT – HB1183 ([link removed])

On June 8, Governor Green signed HB1183 at Hāʻena State Park with the intent to enhance the management of state parks across our islands. Hāʻena State Park, similar to other visitor attractions throughout Hawai‘i, was dealing with overcrowding, congestion, degradation of resources, and safety hazards, which have often contributed to a lessthanpositive experience for residents and visitors alike. ** HAWAIʻI RECEIVES BEST NEW PLATE AWARD 2022 ([link removed])

The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA) has awarded Hawai‘i’s Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) the Best New Plate Award for 2022. The plate design portrays the Hōkūle‘a anchored at Kualoa Bay with vast mountain ranges featured in the surrounding landscape. For nearly 70 years, ALPCA has promoted license plate collecting and research, and has members from 50 states and 19 countries. This is the first time that Hawai‘i has won the award. SUPPORTING THE WELLNESS AND RESILIENCE OF HAWAIʻI’S FAMILIES ([link removed])

On June 14, Governor Green signed multiple bills to make life safer for Hawai‘i residents. The bills signed focused on the ongoing battle against domestic violence and sexual assault, and expanding support for survivors. (Read more) ([link removed])
