Hi friends,
Protect the Protest is a coalition composed of more than 30 civil liberties, social, and environmental justice organizations, including Breach. It was founded to support individuals and communities that resist the use of illegitimate judicial bullying tactics designed to limit free speech and silence those that speak out and stand up for themselves, their communities, and the places they call home.
The coalition has released a letter declaring solidarity with the community-led resistance to stop the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest in Atlanta for the creation of a militarized police training facility - known as the #StopCopCity effort. The letter also highlights the violent and repressive tactics being employed by the State of Georgia and the Atlanta Police Department against the resistance effort. This is in spite of the resistance campaign’s use of constitutionally protected and available avenues for opposition.
If we do not all take a firm stand against this kind of authoritarian behavior from our government and law enforcement, we risk it serving as a template and being replicated across the United States. Use your voice and whatever platforms you have to help #StopCopCity and #DefendtheDefenders. Here is Breach's tweet and Instagram post that you can share.
In solidarity,
The Breach Team
