John,
There is nothing patriotic about dodging taxes. Yet, each year wealthy tax cheats dodge $160 billion in taxes they owe.[1]
That’s money that could be going toward lowering the costs of everything from healthcare to housing for millions of working people.
That’s why, last year, Democrats passed a historic $80 billion investment in the IRS over 10 years to crack down on tax dodgers and better serve everyday taxpayers. This investment would raise more than $200 billion in revenue by increasing audit rates on millionaires, billionaires, and corporations, which had dropped by 71% and 54% respectively since Republicans slashed IRS funding between 2010 and 2017.[2][3]
Instead of making their wealthy and corporate donors pay what they owe in taxes, what did Republicans do? In their first legislative vote of the new Congress, House Republicans voted to repeal $72 billion of IRS funding. And, Republicans have even introduced a bill that would completely abolish the IRS in favor of a 30% national sales tax, which would raise the prices on everything you buy from groceries to cars to healthcare, and more![4]
Fight back against the unpatriotic GOP plan to destroy the IRS. Donate $4 this 4th of July to hold greedy, tax dodging millionaires, billionaires, and corporations accountable.
Together, we’re changing conversations around dinner tables across the country away from trickle-down economics that enriches the top 1% and toward a more fair tax system that puts working people first.
Thank you and happy 4th of July,
David Kass
