** GOOD NEWS FOR CHELMSFORD

Dear neighbour,

I want to share some good news which is going to make a long lasting difference to health services in Chelmsford.
Next week, the first ever doctors to be trained in Essex will graduate from Anglia Ruskin University. This is excellent news for our local NHS and will be a significant step forward in increasing future capacity at our GPs surgeries and Hospitals in Chelmsford.

As you may know, for many decades, it was hard to recruit doctors into our local GP surgeries and hospitals in Mid Essex. This was partly because we had no medical school training doctors in Essex. On becoming MP six years ago, I campaigned successfully for a new medical school in Chelmsford.

Chelmsford was one of only five new medical schools established across the whole country in 2018. The Medical School has been hugely successful, with some of the highest retention rates in the country and many of the new doctors want to stay working locally in Essex.

Last Friday, the NHS published its long term workforce plan. Amongst other things, this announced a doubling of places for training of doctors. We are waiting to hear which medical schools will be allocated the new places. I would like to see Chelmsford’s medical school, at Anglia Ruskin University, double in size.

I have launched a new campaign to improve access to GPs practices across Chelmsford. Enlarging the medical school would help improve access to our GPs practices.
