John, tomorrow will mark exactly one year since the devastating mass shooting in Highland Park. As many of us here at Brady prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with our families and loved ones, we can't help but remember the senseless violence that took seven lives last year.

We'll remember how a joyful parade became a deadly warzone in the blink of an eye.

We'll remember how a seemingly endless spray of bullets rained down on the crowd of children, parents, and grandparents.

We'll remember how first responders and family members alike rushed to gunshot victims, desperate to stop the bleeding from bullet wounds meant to inflict as much damage as possible.

We'll remember the stories of those who lost so much – the grandfather visiting Highland Park to be with his family for the holiday killed in an instant; the 2-year-old found wandering alone newly orphaned that day; and the48 people wounded who still carry their wounds with them.

We'll remember that more than 650 mass shootings have happened in the year since the Highland Park shooting – and the violence shows no signs of slowing down because weapons of war remain on our streets..

But we can't let ourselves simply remember this tragedy: We must also remember how important our action is in the face of it. That's why Brady is calling on 25,000 gun safety champions to demand that Congress finally pass an assault weapons ban and get these weapons of war off our streets.
