Hi there,

It's Jarvis -- your PFA South Carolina State Director. What we saw in Iowa and New Hampshire was extraordinary. And although the race is still extremely tight, everything that has happened leading up to this moment feels like a personal victory. This campaign has given me the opportunity to be a part of a community and work for a candidate that sees the world the way I do, and the way we MUST see it if we’re going to heal the country and turn the page on systemic racism in America.

Growing up, I lived in a neighborhood impacted by poverty, a neighborhood in which I lost countless friends and relatives to gun violence. I was bussed to school far away because the schools in my neighborhood sent more kids to prison than college. Families couldn't feed their children healthy food because of the food desert that made it incredibly difficult to buy groceries.

I grew up under a government that blamed these very parents for their poverty, rather than addressing the systemic violence and oppression plaguing my community. But, when I see my neighborhood, I see resilient families taking care of their children despite every obstacle. I see potential, love, and community. When I met Pete, I knew he was someone who didn't look at communities like mine and only see their problems, but their tenacity and hope.

I listened to Pete talk about leaving the life he was creating to move back to South Bend, a "dying city," because he saw through to its potential. After that, I knew Pete was someone to pay attention to. The way he focused on creating housing, lifting up community members, and creating leadership spaces for black women is the way we need to think about our future. We deserve a president that supports our strength in the face of oppression.

The race is just getting started, and if we want to keep up our momentum we’ll need your support. Will you donate $10 today to help us reach our goal of $1 million so we can turn the page on our broken politics and usher in a new era of unity, action, and belonging? [[link removed]]

Most people look at this country today and see insurmountable division and destruction. Pete looks at this country and sees the opportunity for unity and fundamental change. He understands the work it will take but he sees the potential in this country, and in us. Pete Buttigieg sees a future where race is not a barrier to belonging, and that is a future we ought to make a reality.

Thanks,

Jarvis
