Summer is here, and workers are turning up the HEAT on the bosses! 🌡️
This morning, hotel and hospitality workers across Los Angeles walked off the job and went on strike! The workers of Unite HERE Local 11 have been bargaining with the hotel industry to demand transformative changes to their working conditions, including better healthcare, higher wages, and safer workplaces. Not only that, but the union is bargaining for the common good - demanding that the hotel industry commit to using empty rooms for emergency shelter and commit to endorsing the Responsible Hotel Ordinance. Last week, 18 DSA members were arrested in a historic act of civil disobedience with these workers, and we are now ready to have their back as they go on strike.
Unite HERE Local 11 represents thousands of hotel & hospitality workers across Los Angeles and Orange County. These are workers who do backbreaking labor that keeps our city moving. The tourism industry is and will continue to make historic profits off of their work with the Olympics and the World Cup coming to LA. This work stoppage is part of a historic, decades-long effort to shift the power balance in Los Angeles and transform our city into one that works for working people. The time is NOW to hit the streets! Si se puede!
