FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #24 Dear Friends/Amigos, This week I was in the District meeting with the constituent groups, schools, small businesses, and numerous community leaders that are working daily on keeping Miami free and prosperous! My office has introduced numerous pieces of legislation this week to address the problems Miami faces. From legislation that will incentivize households and small businesses to protect their property before natural disasters happen, to sending a letter to Biden Administration officials on their proposal to raise costs on Miami dry cleaners, to protecting Miami's ecosystem for generations to come, my staff and I are dedicated to defending District 27's interests in Washington. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) PROTECTING MIAMI FROM FUTURE NATURAL DISASTERS Miami and other coastal communties knows very well how a lack of preparation for natural disasters can destroy lives and economies. Up until now, there are no federal proposals to give homeowners and small businesses an incentive to prepare their property BEFORE disasters happen instead of picking up the pieces after. This week I introduced the Shelter Act to do exactly that. If passed into law, this legislation would allow Miami homeowners and small businesses to write off 25 percent of the costs associated with mitigating natural disasters when filing their taxes. DEFENDING MIAMI DRY CLEANERS FROM BIDEN ADMINISTRATION OVERREGULATION This week, I joined my colleagues on the House Small Business Committee in demanding an explanation on how EPA Administrator Michael Regan's new regulation proposals are going to disproportionately impact Miami dry cleaners businesses. Even the EPA itself estimates that the new regulations could cost each business up to $10.4 million in new equipment to remain compliant with their standards! This is poor regulatory policy crossing over with terrible economic policy. Miami deserves an explanation!
