The rise of Artificial intelligence is taking the world by storm, and in our line of work, we are not immune to the changes.
AI is not something we refer to in the future sense; it is here, and it is implemented for both good and bad.
Let's start with some good or positive examples of AI:
We no longer have to spend hours searching the web for a picture or gif to use for an email or tweet we want to send out. That time saved allows us to do other things like research, conduct polls, analyze data, and better craft our persuasion messaging.
Now, on to the dangers of AI in politics, and that list is substantial:
The most dangerous thing is nefarious characters creating deep fakes of someone. That can cause significant harm to that person. We have already witnessed top political figures, including Presidents, fall victim to this technology. AI has also been used to spread misinformation alarmingly fast, which can have catastrophic consequences for society.
So what do we do? Or better yet, what is being done?
Congress is reacting but moving slower than we all would like. In the meantime, we rely on Big Tech to do the right thing... but we aren't holding our breath. Like Big Pharma, Big Banking, Big Tech, and the military-industrial complex have always put profits ahead of people and society.
One of our rules at No Dem Left Behind: we never share a problem that is taking place without offering a solution. It may be challenging, but the technology is here, so we must adapt.
On our side of the aisle in Washington, we have cyber security professionals like Representative Spanbanger of Virginia, and Representative Slotkin of Michigan from a national security background. When we support folks like this, we can rest assured that competent, experienced professionals are advocating on our behalf and writing laws that will protect us and our children.
We need to support and elect more folks with technical backgrounds into Congress because we are just starting. This next AI revolution will change the world, and it is our job to make sure things change for the better and not just to enrich the already exorbitantly wealthy. Help us by pitching in today.
