John,
As a country, we came so close to outlawing discrimination based on sex in 1972, but we fell just three states short of the 38 states necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment at the time.
But last month, the Virginia General Assembly became the 38th state to ratify the amendment. Our House majority responded by voting to remove the unnecessary 1982 deadline for state ratification, meaning we are now one step closer to ratifying the ERA!
Help us keep up the momentum. Sign the petition right now telling Senator McConnell there is no "deadline" when it comes to ensuring equality for all. Add your name >> [link removed]
It's about time that people -- no matter their gender identity -- receive equal treatment under the law after nearly a century of waiting for leaders to step up.
Ending the deadline is a huge victory for equality and for our democracy. Now, it's up to the Senate to remove this so-called time limit, so we can ratify the ERA once and for all. Add your name to our petition today >> [link removed]
