It's been another busy week in TX-23. I am proud to serve our district in Congress. Each day, I work to address your concerns and protect our liberties. From helping you navigate federal casework to addressing your concerns, my team and I are always here to help. Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23.
Fighting for Law Enforcement
On Monday, I spent the day in El Paso. The first thing on my agenda was a visit with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officers Association. This organization works tirelessly to protect the El Paso community and advocate for the well-being of our law enforcement and their families.
Next on the list was a visit to the Clint Border Patrol Station. While there, I had the opportunity to address agents during their shift change and learn more about the challenges they continue to face on the ground.
To round out the day, I toured El Paso's new migrant processing center on US-54. This facility is the size of six football fields, has the capacity to hold 2,500 migrants, and costs taxpayers roughly $1 million per day to operate. The ongoing border crisis has placed an incredible burden on communities in TX-23. I am fighting for policies that restore order to our failed immigration system.
Through the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have secured millions of dollars for border security equipment, partnerships, and the hiring of additional Border Patrol Agents. Solving this crisis requires enforcement against illegal immigration and improvements to our legal immigration system.
Hosted Town Hall: Transparency Matters
This week, I hosted a telephone townhall to hear from individuals spanning the 119 cities and towns I represent across TX-23.
During the call, I provided updates on the funding I have secured to protect the southern border, improve veterans’ benefits, support our farmers and ranchers, and build new infrastructure throughout South and West Texas.
If you were unable to join me for June’s telephone townhall, please join me this month by signing up through my website here.

Delivering Bipartisan Solutions for Our Vets
On Thursday, I joined my fellow For Country Caucus Co-Chair, Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), at the Aspen Ideas Festival for a dialogue facilitated by Katie Couric. We discussed how the For Country Caucus - a group of military veteran Members of Congress - is putting partisanship aside to deliver for our servicemembers and veterans.
To date, the For Country Caucus has played an active role in getting 79 military and veteran-related bills signed into law.
Getting things done in Washington often requires a willingness to reach across the aisle and find common ground. The For Country Caucus provides its members with this opportunity.

Celebrating American Independence
This upcoming Tuesday marks the 247th anniversary of America's birth as a free and independent nation. As our country grapples with many issues, it is important that we remember the blessings that God and our Founding Fathers graced us with when they formed this more perfect union.
As a 20-year Navy veteran and a father of six, I am grateful every day for the actions taken by the 56 individuals who crafted and signed their names on our Declaration of Independence. The risks they took then have allowed us to reap the rewards we cherish today.
As we enjoy time with family and friends on this holiday, I also hope each of us takes time to reflect on the sacrifices made by previous generations to secure our freedoms.
