ACTION SPOTLIGHT

Tell President Biden: Protect Critically
Endangered Vaquitas from Extinction

Vaquitas are the most endangered of the
world's marine mammals. With as few as 10 vaquitas left on the
planet, they are on the razor's edge of extinction. If we don't
act now, vaquitas could disappear forever.

Due to illegal fishing, the vaquita population has plummeted by
98% in less than 25 years. Mexico's failure to control illegal
fishing and enforce its prohibition on the use of gillnets, a
wildly destructive method of fishing, in the narrow strip of
habitat where vaquitas live is a reckless, irresponsible choice.

Mexico has made it clear that the only thing that will force it
to save the vaquita is tangible economic pressure. President
Biden has the chance to embargo seafood from Mexico and impose
other strong sanctions to intervene on behalf of the vaquita —
but time is running out for him to do so.

Urge President Biden to act now and enact strong trade sanctions
to force Mexico to pull the vaquita back from the brink. ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

LAST CHANCE: Submit Your Comment to
Protect Critically Endangered Rice's Whales from Ship Strikes

Critically endangered Rice's whales may
be the most endangered whale on the planet, with only about 50
Rice's whales left in existence.

Rice's whales are threatened by oil and gas development, ocean
noise pollution, and vessel strikes — and speed-reduction
measures are proven to help save whales. NOAA is now considering
an NRDC and partners submitted petition to protect these whales,
and time is running out to speak out in favor of these proposed
life-saving measures.

Please — there's just 48 hours left to submit your comment to
NOAA in support of our petition to protect the remaining 50
Rice's whales from preventable ship strikes in the Gulf of
Mexico.

Urge NOAA to protect critically endangered Rice's whales with
strong actions to help bring this species back from the brink. ( [link removed] )

BIG WINS

* New York Protects 'the Birds and the
Bees' with Nation-Leading Legislation: The New York State
Legislature recently passed a first-in-the-nation bill that would
rein in the use of neurotoxic neonicotinoid pesticides, also
known as neonics, a harmful class of pesticides responsible for
killing bees and other pollinators we need to grow our food. Now
the bill heads to Governor Kathy Hochul for her signature. Read

* New York City Council Passes Universal Organics Collection Law:
Legislation that would establish a mandatory program for the
curbside collection of food scraps, yard waste, and food-soiled
paper from every household has been passed by the New York City
Council — creating what is expected to become the largest
municipal organics waste diversion program in the nation, a major
environmental turnabout in solid waste handling in New York. Read

ACTION ROUNDUP

* Ask the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM) to Strengthen its Proposed Public Lands Rule: ( [link removed] ) BLM manages 1 out of every 10 acres in the United States. For
far too long, BLM has focused on opening our lands to the highest
bidder — but a new proposed rule would increase conservation and
restoration on the lands BLM manages. Tell BLM that you support
the strongest possible conservation vision for America's public
lands. Take action > ( [link removed] )

* Tell President Biden: Protect our Coasts & Communities from
Offshore Drilling: ( [link removed] ) Every catastrophic oil spill begins with a lease sale ... and
President Biden's five-year plan for offshore oil drilling
includes proposals for as many as 11 potential offshore leases
for oil and gas companies in public waters in the Gulf of Mexico
and possibly Alaska. Submit an urgent letter to the Biden
administration telling them to protect our coasts from drilling.

* Cut Carbon Pollution to Tackle the Climate Crisis: ( [link removed] ) Cleaning up electricity production is critical: power plants
that burn coal and gas are responsible for one-third of U.S.
carbon emissions. EPA should implement the strongest possible
carbon pollution standards, and implement them quickly, to
confront the mounting dangers of the worsening climate crisis and
save lives. Take action > ( [link removed] )
