The CIJA Team
CIJA has long been advocating
for expanded and improved support from the federal government
pertaining to the safety and well-being of Jewish institutions and the
communities they serve.
This week the federal
government announced updates to the Security Infrastructure Program
(SIP), including the introduction of the new Severe Hate-Motivated
Incident Support (SHMIS) funding stream, which will allow
organizations, including synagogues and Jewish community centres that
have been targeted by serious hate-motivated attacks, to apply for
prioritized support. This is a welcome announcement in the face of
rising antisemitic incidents across Canada.
CIJA Vice President Richard Marceau was in Brussels for the Second
Interparliamentary Task Force to Combat Online Antisemitism Summit, an
international event that brings elected officials from civil society
and representatives from social media platforms from across the globe
to discuss and develop best practices for combating online
antisemitism.
