Phoenix DSA’s summer ‘23 review: Strikes, Rallies, Forums, and more!
Summer has arrived!
The sun is shining, the weather is warming up, and AZ workers are on a hot streak! Labor actions are brewing around the country (no pun intended), and our chapter is on the picket line in solidarity and triple-digit temperatures with our working class comrades. I’d call that #StrikeReady!
This email is your guide to Phoenix DSA’s June achievements and July actions! If you want to get involved or have questions, send an email to [email protected] and we’ll reach out.
New stores are unionizing around the valley. Baristas are going on #StrikeWithPride to demand that Starbucks negotiate a fair contract with union stores and stop their illegal union-busting campaign. And Phoenix DSA is out on the picket line, supporting these determined workers.
Unfortunately, the coffee industrial complex has cracked down on these strikes, calling in cops and managers to cross picket lines without hesitation. Which means discretion is essential to success.
For that reason, the dates, times, and locations of actions cannot be released until early morning, day of. We are also unable to share any updates directly with non-members.
If you want instant updates on strike actions we support, you’ll need to join the chapter. First, become a member of the DSA, then forward your “welcome to the DSA” email to [email protected], and we’ll reach out with next steps. These and other potential labor actions are ONGOING, so sign up today!
Convention Election Forum - July Chapter Meeting
Join us from 1-3pm on July 15 for a discussion forum with a few of the candidates running for DSA's National Political Committee - DSA’s top executive body! We're very excited to give our members, delegates, and comrades a chance to meet and talk with these national organizers.
If you have questions for the candidates, send them to [email protected] with "DSA NPC Forum Questions" and your name in the subject line. We will also be taking questions directly through zoom’s chat feature during the forum.
In the meantime, we will continue connecting with members of other DSA factions to ensure broad ideological representation at our event!
Because this is also our regular chapter meeting, we will also discuss upcoming events, debrief from past actions, and develop goals for the upcoming year! You can RSVP Here! These meetings are free and open for public viewing.
Strike Ready Rally - Picture Recap
Last but not least, check out these pictures from last month’s Strike Ready Rally and Labor Solidarity Event!
Huge thanks to Vice Chair Nia for taking these pictures!
That’s all for now! But there is much more in the works. Please check our calendar for regular updates.
Organizing for socialist policies in a "purple" state like Arizona can be exhausting. Burnout is real, and isolation only makes it worse. So if you're unionizing your workplace, writing ballot initiatives, preparing to run for office, supporting mutual aid efforts, or fighting for a socialist future, we have space for you. You are not alone!
If you have questions, comments, or ideas, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We're happy to help neighbors in need, and we're always excited to meet new comrades!
If you aren't a member, but you want to get involved, then JOIN THE DSA TODAY! Let us know that it's official by forwarding your welcome email to [email protected] once it arrives. We look forward to working together!
If you want to get involved but you’re not sure where to start, check out our calendar or send us an email or a DM. Be sure to check back regularly! We have new events in the works.
Finally, our work isn’t possible without your support. Local DSA chapters receive a small portion of member dues from DSA national, but the majority of our support comes through donations from members and allies. If you are able, please make a donation to support the Phoenix DSA.
In the meantime, have a great week and solidarity forever!
