Conservative Party leadership contender Erin O’Toole just promised to “Fully privatize CBC English TV by the end of our first mandate,”(Toronto Sun, Feb. 14), and added that he would “slash funding” for CBC News Network, and “end digital news”(National Post, Feb. 15).
It’s another clear example of how Conservatives want to take us back to the same damaging cuts of the Harper era.
In a minority Parliament, we can never take our progress for granted. Instead of cutting funds to the CBC, Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government have made important investments since 2015 to ensure it can continue its unique mission of informing, and being a reflection of, Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
