Dear Friend,

This was another busy week in the 13th district and I wanted to check in.

It’s graduation season and I was given the honor of serving as the keynote speaker at two of our great neighborhood schools, Flushing High School and Pan American High School. I talked to the students about their labor rights and everything we have been doing to pave the way for them to have a fairer and better economy in this city.

This year’s graduating class in Queens has been through a lot including the pandemic, which disproportionately affected our community, and Hurricane Ida. It was a pleasure to tell them how proud we all are of them. They are the fulfillment of their ancestors’ wildest dreams!

Tuesday was my birthday ([link removed]) , but more importantly, it was Primary Election Day in New York City. My team and I were out in force supporting Elmhurst’s own Sandra Pérez for Queens Civil Court Judge. Sandra won her primary and we need everyone ready to support her in November!

Sandra is the daughter of Caribbean immigrants and has over three decades of experience advocating for people of all backgrounds including victims of domestic violence, immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community. Her race is an important opportunity to diversify the bench and back a judge with a proven commitment to justice. I will be back out for Sandra in the general election and hope you will join me!

On Thursday, I attended and spoke at the ribbon cutting for the Louis Armstrong Education Center in Corona. This will be the permanent home of the archive of legendary jazzman Louis Armstrong and his wife, Lucille. It will also be a venue for exhibits and performances. Queens has a rich musical history and it was an absolute pleasure to help celebrate this incredible space at the home the Armstrongs occupied for much of their amazing lives. I strongly encourage you to check out this amazing museum. I plan to be a regular!

Next week, we are celebrating my birthday with a big bash on July 6th @ Café Rubio in Corona and you are invited! Join us for music, food, and an open bar.

If you would like to get your name on the list and join us please:

I hope to see you there!

Thanks so much for your support.

In solidarity,

Jessica
