John,
Black women have led the push for reproductive justice in the United States. Even when Roe v. Wade was in place, we faced systemic barriers to abortion care, including racism in healthcare.
For example, the Hyde amendment has restricted coverage of abortions for people who rely on Medicaid and other federally provided healthcare -- harming LGBTQ+ people, Black and brown people, and other marginalized communities.
To center marginalized people seeking abortions, I joined my sister-in-service, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, in introducing the Abortion Justice Act.
This legislation will ensure federally protected access to safe and affordable abortion services and reproductive healthcare. It would require insurance to cover abortion care and remove systemic barriers to care, including for immigrant families.
Please add your name now to support the Abortion Justice Act and affirm our right to access abortion care without stigma, shame, or systemic barriers.
Thank you for taking action to protect our fundamental rights.
With love,
Cori
