The filing deadline for Steering Committee elections has passed! We now have our slate of 18 candidates and are getting ready to send ballots out on July 7th. With that being said, here is the candidate guide for your consideration ahead of the elections. In it you will find the biographies and motivation statements of each of the 18 candidates running for the nine open Steering Committee seats

The election will begin July 7th and online voting will last until July 14th at 11:59 pm Eastern. Those attending NLAS D.C. will be able, and encouraged, to vote in person on July 15th. The election will be run using approval voting, meaning voters can vote for as many candidates as they feel comfortable being on the committee. The candidates with the highest number of votes will win. For instance, if there are four candidates: April, Brent, Cindy, and Daniel and after reading their statements I'm only comfortable with April, Daniel, and Cindy, I can give each of them one vote. My friend on the other hand is comfortable with all four, so they will vote for all four, while my neighbor only comfortable with April, can cast one vote for April alone.

Two seats will reserved for non-U.S. members to ensure international representation on the Steering Committee, meaning if the nine vote recipients are all from the U.S., the eighth and ninth place winners will be displaced in favor of the two top vote-getting international candidates. In the event of a tie for ninth place, we will confer with the tied candidates and develop a fair method of adjudication.

The winners will be announced on Saturday, July 15th at the NLAS Conference.

If you have any questions ahead of voting Saturday, do not hesitate to reply to this email.
