Friend — June is Pride Month, when we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community’s hard-won progress in the ongoing fight for justice and equality.

At LCV, we are proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community as we advocate for a more just, equitable, and sustainable future for all.

The issues that impact the health and safety of our communities are truly interconnected. There can be no climate justice without social justice, racial justice, and a democracy where everyone can participate fully without fear, and where the fundamental rights of all people are secure and protected by law.

Right now, the rights to equitable treatment and protection under the law are threatened for members of LGBTQIA+ communities, as nearly 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills across the nation target access to healthcare, bathrooms, performance spaces, and the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

This recent escalation of legislative attacks against the LGBTQIA+ community, cheered on by members of the extreme right wing, remind us of the importance of solidarity and the true meaning of Pride Month. Everyone deserves the opportunity to celebrate who they are — openly and with pride.

We encourage LCV members — both members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies — to find a Pride event near you. Pride events in the U.S. and around the world continue over the coming months. Together, we can stand up to hate and discrimination and continue our shared fight for equality and justice.
