These words barely touch the surface of how I am feeling.
John,
Shameful, cruel, and completely illegitimate.
Those words barely even begin to describe the anger and despair I and millions are feeling after the Supreme Court's recent decisions. This session, the Supreme Court…
- Ruled to block student debt relief for 43 million Americans
- Ruled that businesses can discriminate against LGBTQIA+ folks on the basis of a *hypothetical* case
- Enshrined racial inequity in higher education and economic immobility into law by ending affirmative action for Black Americans while doing nothing about legacy admissions for the children of celebrities and mega-donors
- And weakened the Clean Water Act protections
John, this kangaroo court is attacking our freedom and our humanity. The cruelty is the point.
As a Black woman who had the audacity to attend college and law school and now holds hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loan debt as a result, these decisions are personal to me.
These issues impact us all in different ways, but make no mistake — this is not the end for this far-right Supreme Court. As they made clear in their Dobbs v. Jackson decision, next they are coming for marriage equality, interracial marriage, contraceptive use, and more.
And the same Supreme Court justices that are selling us out and stripping away our freedoms are the judges with lifetime appointments and no code of ethics. It's clear the Supreme Court needs reform from the corruption and far-right ideologies that have plagued it.
The Supreme Court won't hold itself accountable so Congress must. John, I'm committed to using all my power to hold the corrupt Supreme Court accountable and push for reform. If you're with me in this fight, will you rush an urgent $5 donation today?
