Happy Independence Day Weekend!
|
|
As we celebrate the Fourth of July, let us remember that it's not just about the birth of our incredible nation but also about the enduring spirit of freedom that defines us as Americans.
While we gather with our loved ones this weekend, please join me in taking a moment to honor the courageous men and women who have bravely defended our freedom, both here at home and abroad.
Their unwavering courage and selflessness are a powerful reminder that freedom is not something we can take for granted but rather a responsibility that we must always cherish, nurture, and protect.
Let's recommit ourselves to the principles that unite us as a nation and make us who we are – that shining city on a hill.
I’m wishing everyone in New York’s 24th District and across the country a happy Independence Day! May god bless the United States of America!

Serving on the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group
|
|
This week, I was honored to be appointed by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy to serve on the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group.
The Inter-Parliamentary Group consists of a coalition of elected leaders from both Canada and U.S. who are dedicated to promoting dialogue on policy issues of shared interest. We will engage in important bilateral discussions on issues such as trade, border management, our Great Lakes, national security, and economic opportunity, all with the aim of enhancing cooperation and fostering mutual benefits. I am honored to have been named to serve on this body.
Canada and the United States are interconnected through shared values and strong economic ties. I look forward to working alongside my fellow members to address key issues impacting our bilateral relationship to advance both our regional and national interests.

This week a group of House members sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling for "snapback" sanctions on Iran once the rogue regime crosses the threshold of 90 percent nuclear enrichment. I strongly disagree with the premise of this letter. Signaling to the Islamic Republic of Iran that it should only face consequences for its reckless nuclear extortion if it reaches the dangerous threshold of 90 percent weapons-grade nuclear enrichment is deeply concerning.
Iran is already enriching uranium at 24 times the limit allowed by the failed and flawed JCPOA – the time for action is now, not after Iran blows past the critical benchmark of achieving weapons-grade enriched uranium.
Threatening snapback only after Iran reaches the 90 percent threshold also creates a new and dangerous standard that Iranian enrichment up to 89.9 percent is somehow acceptable. Let me be clear: it is absolutely not acceptable. We need to stop moving the goalposts and start increasing the pressure.
The time for snapback is now.

Commending the Supreme Court for Constitutional Rulings on Student Loan Debt and Religious Liberty
|
|
This week, the Supreme Court released their final decisions for this term, including important decisions on Biden’s effort to cancel student loan debt and a decision protecting religious liberty. I applaud the Court's rulings in both cases.
Last year, the Biden administration tried to illegally bypass Congress to spend at least $400 billion in taxpayer money to cancel student loan debt. This policy was unfair, costly, and unconstitutional. Thankfully the Supreme Court protected Constitutional checks and balances, reaffirming that the power of the purse belongs to the people’s House, not the President.
Additionally, in another case, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that free speech and the ability to practice one’s faith are fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. Individuals with deeply held religious beliefs acting in good faith should be protected under the law.

It's Not Too Late: Schedule Your DC Tour Today!
|
|
Are you planning to travel to our nation's capital this summer? My team would love to assist you in planning tours of some of our nation's greatest monuments!
Tours of the Capitol Building are fully reopened Monday-Saturday. While the White House requires 21 days' minimum notice to accommodate any tour requests. Availability for both of these tours are extremely limited. I urge you to reach out to my office as soon as possible regarding all future tour requests. You can do so by accessing my tour request portal here.
While my office may be unable to secure a tour for all the sites you have selected, given the high demand and currently limited availability, there are a number of locations that remain available for public tours. I urge you to visit house.gov for more information regarding these opportunities. Such locations include the Supreme Court and the National Archives, which you can view here and here. You may also wish to register to receive your very own library card through the Library of Congress, which you can do so here. I would also suggest you contact your U.S. Senators, as they too accommodate tour requests.
Rest assured that my office will do all it can to accommodate as many requests as possible. We appreciate your understanding in this matter and wish all visitors a safe and pleasant trip to Washington, D.C.
