Securing $85 Million for Deepening the Mississippi River
After years of hard work, I’m very glad that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers included $85 million to deepen the lower Mississippi River to 50 feet in their 2020 Work Plan. As home to the mouth of the Mississippi River, this is excellent news for Southeast Louisiana and our ability to move more commerce through the Port of New Orleans!
The Mississippi River Basin has an unprecedented impact on our national economy, global competitiveness, and American job creation. Modernizing our infrastructure and deepening the river to 50 feet will help strengthen Louisiana’s dominance in domestic and international commerce.
This critical project also provides a dual benefit of rebuilding Louisiana’s vanishing coastline. Deepening the river will give the state the ability to take that sediment and use it to rebuild our coast, increasing lifesaving flood protection.
Fighting for Morganza-to-the-Gulf Flood Protection
This week, Congressman Garret Graves and I met with the Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Russ Vought, to discuss the importance of Morganza-to-the-Gulf and urge OMB to approve the project’s new lower cost estimate. OMB’s approval of the new lower cost estimate is integral for securing the federal funds necessary to move forward with this vital flood protection project.
Morganza-to-the-Gulf will not only provide flood protection for thousands of families and businesses in Southeast Louisiana, it will protect the billions of dollars in economic activity transported through this region that allows our state to dominate in domestic and international maritime and energy commerce.
I will continue fighting to break through the bureaucratic red tape and secure the necessary funding for this vital hurricane and storm surge protection project.

$13.4 Million Grant for the Port of South Louisiana
It’s great news for our economy that the Port of South Louisiana will soon benefit from a $13.4 million federal grant for its Globalplex Multi-Modal Connections Project. From chemical manufacturing and grain exports, to crude oil storage and trade, the Port of South Louisiana is a great economic driver and employer in Louisiana.
This grant will advance the port’s expansion, and I applaud President Trump and Secretary Chao for their leadership on infrastructure investments and their commitment to addressing critical infrastructure project needs throughout our nation.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
God Bless,
