Recent News

It is officially summertime in Texas and throughout the country! Summer is an exciting time for us here in D.C., we have the opportunity to get a lot of work done and have some fun along the way.

To kick off summer here in D.C. I had the opportunity to play in the Congressional Baseball Game. This is a time-honored game that supports local charities throughout D.C. This year was a great win for Republican Team, and I enjoyed getting to play alongside my fellow members. 

I also had the privilege of welcoming our Congressional Art Challenge winner, Racie Romero! It was great getting to meet with Racie and her family to show off her creative piece of art that now hangs in the Nations Capitol.

D.C. Update

Here is just a snapshot of some of the legislation we have been able to pass this month!

H. Res. 382
-Condemns the rise of antisemitism and calls on elected officials to identify and educate others on the contributions of the Jewish American community.

H.R. 3746 - The Fiscal Responsibility
     -Forces government to spend less than last year.
     -Cuts funding for Biden’s IRS army
     -Billions of dollars of unspent COVID money will be returned to the taxpayers.
     -Congress, for the first time ever, will enact into law a procedure to rein in Executive      overreach via costly rules and regulations.
     -Limit topline federal spending to 1% annual growth for the next 6 years.
     -For the first time in over a decade, our federal government’s discretionary spending will be      less next year than this year.

H.J. Res. 44 - Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives relating to “Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached ‘Stabilizing Braces
     -The Congressman is a cosponsor.
     - This nullifies the final rule issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and      Explosives (ATF) that classifies a firearm with a stabilizing brace as a short, barreled rifle      subject to regulation under the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA) and the National Firearms      Act of 1934 (NFA).

H.R. 277 - REINS Act of 2023
     -Reasserts the legislative authority of Congress and prevent excessive overreach by the      executive branch in the federal rulemaking process. It would require every new "major rule"      proposed by federal agencies to be approved by both the House and Senate before going into      effect. The bill would also preserve Congress' authority to disapprove of a "nonmajor rule"      through a joint resolution.

-H.R. 4136, To name the Department of Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic in Plano, Texas, as the "U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson Memorial VA Clinic".

-H.R. 1096 - 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps Commemorative Coin Act

-H.R.537 - Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act

-H.R.3033 - Solidify Iran Sanctions Act of 2023

District Update

During my time home in Texas this month I have been able to meet with some great new folks.

We hosted our first Coffee with your Congressman in Mansfield. I enjoyed giving an update on everything going on in Washington and getting to visit with so many of you. I want to thank my friend State Representative David Cook for joining me and giving an update on what is going on down in Austin.

Earlier in the month I attend the Fort Worth Rotary Club with Chairwoman Kay Granger and Chairman Roger Williams. I enjoyed getting to meet with these dedicated Rotarians and discuss how their organization serves so many throughout, not only Texas, but the world. We discussed the importance of Small Business in our communities as well how Chairwoman Granger and I are working together on the Appropriations Committee to ensure fiscal responsibility for our country.
