Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce New Investments to Expand Broadband Access

Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that Minnesota will receive nearly $652 million from the federal government to build on the state?s efforts to connect Minnesotans and businesses across the state with high-speed internet.

?In Minnesota, we?ve made historic investments to connect more homes, businesses, and communities?with the high-speed internet that today?s economy requires. The funding will help us make sure those efforts reach each and every household across our state,??said Governor Walz.??Minnesota has an ambitious goal to increase broadband access and a collection of providers ready to expand our high-speed network, and we?re grateful our federal partners are helping us pursue broadband for all.?

Days after this announcement,?Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced an additional $67 million in state grants for internet providers to expand broadband coverage to tens of thousands of Minnesotans, furthering the administration?s commitment to providing high-speed broadband for all Minnesotans.?

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Visits Moorhead to Highlight Investments in Infrastructure, Broadband

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan visited Moorhead to highlight investments in infrastructure and broadband.

?This session, we focused on making life safer, easier, and more affordable for Minnesotans. It was great to see these investments in action across the community of Moorhead and Clay County,? said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. ?Whether it?s expanding access to high-speed internet, connecting communities through improvements to transportation and infrastructure, or investing in local public safety departments, communities in every corner of the state will see and feel these investments.?

She first visited 702 Communications to celebrate recent state and federal funding to expand broadband access for more Minnesotans. In the afternoon, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan toured the 11th street underpass project in downtown Moorhead?and visited Weld Hall on the Minnesota State University Moorhead campus.


Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Highlight Actions to Protect Reproductive Freedom in Minnesota

Following the one-year anniversary, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan reflected on the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision and Minnesota?s work to protect reproductive freedom and health care.

?One year ago, I pledged that Minnesota would not turn back the clock on reproductive rights in Minnesota as long as I remained in office. Since that pledge, Minnesota became the first state in the country to codify abortion rights into law,? said Governor Walz. ?We have become an island of freedom for women seeking to make their own health care decisions. In Minnesota, we?ll continue to deliver on our promises and protect your rights ? not take them away.?

On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined United States Senator Tina Smith at the Red River Women?s Clinic in Moorhead.

"Facilities like the Red River Women?s Clinic in Moorhead make Minnesota an island of access for reproductive health care and abortion care.?We?ll continue working to ensure every single person has access to the care they need, without having to travel across borders," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?"Thank you to all of those at the Red River Women?s Clinic for being on the frontlines to care for our neighbors. And thank you to Senator Smith?? Minnesota and the nation have an incredible advocate for reproductive freedom in you."
