Today the Supreme Court showed us what Americans are up against. They ruled against people like me, against fairness, against the American Dream, against the United States my family fled to. I’ve had enough.

In the last two days, the Supreme Court single-handedly halted decades of progress and overturned affirmative action, legalized discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, and threw millions of working people under the bus by overturning President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.

These rulings feel like a personal attack, because they are. When I was in college, I was holding hands with my girlfriend in a coffee shop when a homophobic police officer kicked us out because the coffee shop manager didn’t “want our kind” there. It was illegal then, but now, thanks to the Supreme Court conservative majority, the door to making it legal has been opened.

This is exactly why I’m running for Congress. The only way we’re going to fight back these corrupt, undemocratic, and frankly bullshit decisions is by expanding representation in the House so people with lived experience, like me, are elected and expanding the Senate majority in 2024. The Supreme Court and religious extremist Republicans have started a war against working people, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community — but we are not going to let them win!

We need new voices in the halls of Congress ready to address the real issues and concerns of working people – and that includes acting as a check on the ultra-conservative Supreme Court. Lives are literally on the line, and it’s time our government steps up.

The stakes of this race are too high. As a Lesbian, immigrant, working-class woman, I know what it’s like to be forgotten and ignored, and I won’t be silenced any longer.
